About Performance Injury Care & Sports Medicine
Founded in 2007 by Dr. Phillip M. Steele, Performance Injury Care & Sports Medicine (PICSM) serves the residents of Helena, Montana and surrounding communities. We strive to make our community a better place for everyone and support local schools, organizations, and events. We also provide coverage for high school football games and high-impact sporting events and promote concussion screening throughout the area.
Our thriving practice offers comprehensive non-operative care to treat sports injuries and work-related injuries, as well as almost any condition that affects the musculoskeletal system. Should you need surgery, we maintain relationships with a network of local orthopedic surgeons and can refer you to the doctor best suited to treat your condition.
Call PICSM at (406) 422-5817 to schedule an appointment or you can simply walk in to be seen. You can also use our online appointment request form. We look forward to helping you achieve a full and speedy recovery.

We are proud to treat students and athletes from sports teams at Capital High School and Helena High School. Our providers feel it is an honor and a privilege to take care of our high school athletes. They can be found in the high school training rooms as well as providing extra medical coverage for all home football games and high-impact sporting events. The hours for the high school training rooms are Mondays from 5 – 6 pm. All care rendered must be coordinated through the high school athletic training room.
Helena Small Fry Football
We are proud to treat students and athletes from sports teams participating in Helena Small Fry Football. We have a tent at Small Fry football games on Saturdays from 8 am to noon for emergent care.
Save the Brain Helena
Our providers feel it is imperative to get education and information out to our community about concussion care and management, as well as to conduct pre-injury and post-injury screenings. Our providers can be found at various events helping Save the Brain Helena assess and administer screenings to area athletes.
We specialize in acute care of all types of musculoskeletal injuries. Our goal of quality injury care is of paramount importance to us and we will strive to provide you with timely, compassionate care. If your problem is surgical in nature, we work closely with many orthopedic surgeons to provide you with comprehensive care that fast tracks you on a path to recovery.
